Reinout Wiers
PI
Reinout Wiers is Professor of Developmental Psychopathology, Department of Psychology, University of Amsterdam, where he leads the Addiction Development and Psychopathology (ADAPT) Lab, which he founded in 2009. He is (co)director of the University of Amsterdam’s interdisciplinary Centre for Urban Mental Health (UMH website). Wiers is internationally known for his work on assessing and changing implicit cognitive processes in addiction. He has published over 400 international papers and many book-chapters and books (latest: Akrasia). He received the VIDI (2002) and VICI (2008) research grants from N.W.O. (Dutch National Science Foundation) and has been part of several Dutch, European and international research consortia. He is senior editor of the journal Addiction (since 2009).
Current main research interests:
Can personalized symptom networks improve clinical diagnosis and treatment? (NSMD);
Can we improve cognitive bias modification in addiction and other disorders, based on a new theoretical perspective? (automatic inferences, see ABC-training);
Can we improve assessment and methods to change attentional bias in addiction and other disorders? (e.g., dual probe and VMAC).
